WRECK DIVING IN MALTA

Malta is rightly famous for its incredible concentration of accessible shipwrecks, artificial reefs and even sunken aircraft. With over a dozen fascinating sites scattered around the islands, every wreck dive tells a story dating from World War II to the present day. Whether you are a newly certified diver or a seasoned technical explorer, the wrecks offer something for everyone, from shallow bow sections resting at 12 metres to towering deep-water giants beyond 40 metres.

DiveBase Malta regularly schedules guided wreck dives to the most iconic sites, including the patrol boat P29 in Ċirkewwa, the tugboat Rozi off the northwestern coast, and the colossal tanker Um El Faroud. Each dive is planned according to your certification level, with thorough briefings that cover the history of the vessel, its current condition and the marine life that has colonised it. We provide deep speciality training for those looking to extend their limits, ensuring you can safely explore these submerged museums.

CAVE AND REEF EXPLORATION

Beyond the wrecks, Malta’s coastline is carved with dramatic underwater caves, swim-throughs and dramatic drop-offs that make every dive an adventure. The limestone rock formations have been sculpted by millennia of wave action, creating arches, tunnels and caverns bathed in ethereal blue light. Whether you glide through the chimney at the Blue Hole in Gozo or follow the reef wall at Cirkewwa, the geological variety is simply stunning.

The Mediterranean Sea around Malta is alive with a surprising diversity of species, from colourful nudibranchs and octopus to large schools of barracuda and amberjack. Thanks to strict fishing regulations and marine protected areas, fish populations have thrived, and encounters with groupers, moray eels and seahorses are common. Seasonal visitors include majestic eagle rays and even the occasional dolphin passing through the channel between Malta and Comino.

Our classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped with multimedia tools for theory sessions, while the sun terrace is the perfect spot to log your dives and swap stories with fellow enthusiasts.

Our custom-built dive boat is designed for stability and easy water entry, with ample deck space, a shaded area and a lifting platform for divers requiring assistance. Groups are intentionally kept small to guarantee personal attention, relaxed dive briefings and a friendly atmosphere.
