The richness and diversity of dive sites in Malta, Comino and Gozo make it a great diving destination suitable for all levels. Beginners as well as expert divers may dive in caves systems, on unique reefs, explore wrecks and swim though underwater tunnels.
The great advantage of diving in Malta is also the fact that you may schedule all your diving excursions in the mornings (2 dives in different spots) and still plan afternoon activities with your family, friends and buddies.

PADI & SSI DIVE COURSES – FROM BEGINNER TO PROFESSIONAL
DiveBase Malta is a fully licensed PADI 5 Star and SSI Training Center, delivering the entire range of recreational and professional dive courses all year round. Our instructors incorporate the Y-40® methodology into every class, focusing on perfect buoyancy, breath control and mental composure from your very first pool session. If you are a complete novice you can start with the Discover Scuba Diving experience in sheltered waters, then progress to the Open Water Diver certification in just a few days. For those who already hold a certification, Advanced, Rescue, Divemaster and even Instructor courses are scheduled regularly, with small groups that guarantee personal attention and fast progression.
Every course includes digital manuals, certification fees, full equipment rental and free shuttle from our St. Paul’s Bay centre to the chosen training dive sites. We also run speciality programmes such as Deep Diver, Enriched Air Nitrox, Wreck Diver and Underwater Navigator – all enriched with Y-40® breath-work drills that help you consume less air and stay calm under pressure. Upon completion you receive an internationally recognised certification card and, if you are a Y-40® ProClub member, discounted rates on further training packages. Families are welcome: we can train children from 8 years old in the Bubblemaker and Seal Team programmes, while teenagers as young as 10 can earn a Junior Open Water licence with depth limits strictly respected.
FULL EQUIPMENT RENTAL & PROFESSIONAL SERVICING
DiveBase keeps a large inventory of top-brand rental gear, including Apeks and Scubapro regulators, Mares and Cressi BCDs, well-fitted 5 mm wetsuits and a wide selection of masks and fins for all face shapes. Every rental set is washed, sanitized and inspected after each use; regulators and BCDs undergo a full annual service by our in-house technician. Cylinders are filled with hyper-filtered Pure Air through a Bauer compressor bank, and we refill your own tanks on the spot. Guests staying in St. Paul’s Bay and beyond can reserve a full kit for the duration of their holiday and leave it in our free overnight storage – you arrive in the morning, grab your gear and head straight to the dive site.
For divers who own equipment, our workshop offers certified regulator and BCD servicing, drysuit repairs and battery replacement for dive computers. Turnaround is fast – usually 48 hours – and all work is guaranteed. We also stock a range of consumables and spares: mouthpieces, mask straps, o-rings, fin buckles and silicone grease. During the winter months we run equipment care clinics where Y-40® ProClub members can learn basic field maintenance and extend the life of their investments. Whether you rent or bring your own, the DiveBase team ensures your kit is safe, comfortable and performing at its best.
MALTA’S PREMIER DIVE SITES – WRECKS, REEFS & CAVERNS
From our St. Paul’s Bay location you can reach the island’s most celebrated dive spots quickly by road or by our own rigid-hull inflatable. Shore dives take in places like the Cirkewwa Arch and the P29 patrol boat wreck, while a short boat ride opens up the wrecks of the Um El Faroud and the Rozi tugboat, both teeming with barracuda and amberjack. Comino’s crystal-clear Blue Lagoon and Santa Maria Caves are equally accessible, and on selected days we run full-day boat safaris to Gozo to explore the Blue Hole, the Inland Sea tunnel and the dramatic Cathedral Cave. Each guided dive includes a thorough site briefing that highlights the marine life, entry and exit points and the Y-40® breathing patterns that help you stay relaxed and safe.
Wreck enthusiasts can spend a whole day diving HMS Maori, a WWII destroyer resting at 14 metres just outside Valletta, or the massive cargo ship MV Karwela in Xatt l-Ahmar. Our guides are intimately familiar with each site’s layout, currents and seasonal visibility, so you can enjoy penetration dives on the Um El Faroud and the Bristol Beaufighter bomber plane wreck with total confidence. For photographers, we schedule gentle drift dives along the drop-offs of Lantern Point and the Qawra Reef, where moray eels, octopus and colourful nudibranchs pose in the warm Mediterranean light. Every excursion includes fresh water, snacks and the option to request a private guide for couples or small groups.
NIGHT DIVING & SPECIALTY EXCURSIONS
When the sun sets, Malta’s coastline reveals a completely different personality. DiveBase organises guided night dives at least once a week from May to October, departing from St. Paul’s Bay at dusk. Popular spots include Cirkewwa’s sheltered bay, where cuttlefish, octopus and sleeping parrotfish come out to hunt, and the shallow reef off Qawra Point, known for bioluminescent plankton that sparkles with every fin kick. Every night dive is led by an instructor carrying a powerful primary light and a backup, and you’ll be briefed on hand signals, buddy contact and Y-40® breath control to maintain perfect buoyancy in the dark. We provide weighted torches for rent if you do not own one, and the centre’s hot shower and tea are waiting when you return.
Beyond classic night dives, we can craft bespoke excursions such as full-moon snorkelling sessions, dawn dives to watch the sun rise underwater, and florescent night dives using blue torches and yellow filters that reveal the reef’s hidden colours. For experienced divers, early-morning boat trips to the offshore wrecks allow you to be the first in the water, while couples can book a private sunset outing followed by a glass of wine on the boat.
