Malta’s calm, warm Mediterranean waters offer some of the most consistent diving in Europe. Winter sea temperatures rarely drop below 15°C, while summer peaks at a comfortable 26°C. A standard 5 mm wetsuit keeps you toasty from November to April, and many divers switch to a shorty from June through October. The real gift, though, is the visibility: it frequently exceeds 30 metres, and on the clearest days you can see well beyond 40 metres. Gentle currents—usually under half a knot—and a complete absence of dangerous marine life make every dive feel safe and unhurried, no matter your experience level.
The island’s mild climate means diving is possible 365 days a year, but each season brings its own character. Spring fills the water with blooming algae and huge schools of bream; autumn often delivers the warmest sea and the chance to spot passing tuna or amberjack; summer treats you to long, sunny surface intervals; and winter gives you the wrecks and reefs almost to yourself. Malta’s Most Spectacular Dive Sites
With over 30 official sites scattered around the archipelago, choosing favourites is nearly impossible. Shore dives let you walk straight in from the rocks, while boat trips open up deep wrecks and remote caves. Below are just a few of the spots that keep divers coming back to Malta year after year.
- Blue Hole, Gozo – A natural chimney that drops into a luminous cavern, then opens onto a dramatic archway. The walls are covered in colourful sponges, and groupers often hover near the exit.
- Cirkewwa Reef – This popular northern site combines a reef, a sunken patrol boat and the iconic underwater statue of the Virgin Mary. Huge schools of damselfish and bream swirl around you, perfect for wide‑angle photography.
- Um El Faroud Wreck – A 115‑metre Libyan oil tanker scuttled as an artifici. Resting at 18–36 metres, it is now encrusted with corals and can be penetrated by advanced divers.
- HMS Maori – A World War II destroyer lying at just 14 metres outside Valletta’s Grand Harbour. Its shallow depth and easy access make it a perfect first wreck dive.
- Santa Maria Caves – A series of interconnected caverns near Comino Island, lit by shafts of sunlight that create an electric blue glow. The light effects alone are worth the trip.

Diving Courses for Every Level
If you have always dreamed of breathing underwater, our PADI 5‑Star Centre is the ideal place to begin. The Discover Scuba Diving experience lets you take your first breaths from a regulator in shallow, clear water under the direct supervision of a patient instructor. In less than an hour you will glide over a sandy bottom, perhaps spotting a starfish or a wrasse. No prior experience or even swimming ability is required—just curiosity and a sense of adventure.
Ready to earn your certification? The PADI Open Water Diver course runs over three to four days and combines knowledge sessions with pool training and four open‑water dives. Thanks to Malta’s easy shore access and calm conditions, you spend more time actually diving and less time travelling. Once qualified, you can dive anywhere in the world. We also offer the full range of continuing education: Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and numerous specialties such as Wreck, Deep or Nitrox. Our instructors are all native‑level English, Italian and Maltese speakers, so you can learn in the language you feel most comfortable with.

Essential Tips for Your Diving Holiday
Packing smart makes your dive trip smoother and more enjoyable. While our centre provides all the core gear—cylinders, weights, BCDs and regulators—we recommend you bring your own mask, snorkel and fins for a perfect fit. A dive computer is not mandatory but highly recommended, and don’t forget your certification card and logbook; our staff will need to verify your qualifications before your first dive.
